In 1983, the UN (United Nations) appointed an international commission to formulate 'a global agenda for change' - ways to improve human well being in the short term without threatening the local and global environment in then long term. The commission's landmark report, Our Common Future, popularly, known as the Brundtland Report (published in 1987), made recommendations for change in order to confront common global problems.
