The Waste Land

During recent years, the standard of English has rapidly gone down in India. It has become increasingly clear that, if English literature is to survive in this country, English classics must be introduced to students in the Indian Universities in an easy and popular form. The present study is, therefore, designed to fulfil this need. A glance at the contents will suffice to bring out its usefulness not only for the examinees, but also for the general reader.

The emphasis throughout has been on clarification and evaluation. To facilitate further the task of the examinees, often hard pressed for time, the relevant critical material has been presented in a lucid and simple manner. While the treatment is comprehensive and elaborate, it in no way precludes, a study of the original text, which is essential for a proper and genuine understanding.
